Cavuto was born in Westbury, New York and raised in Danbury, Connecticut. He attended Danbury's Immaculate High School, St. Bonaventure University for undergraduate school, and American University for graduate school. While an undergraduate student, he interned at the White House within the Carter administration.

Prior to joining FNC, Cavuto was an anchor for CNBC, where he hosted several shows including "Power Lunch" and "Market Wrap," which was the network's highest-rated show at the time. He was also a contributor for NBC's "Today Show" and a variety of other talk show programs.

Aside from being a popular anchor, Cavuto oversees business news content for both FOX channels as vice president of business news. He was promoted to the position in March 2006, nearly 10 years after he debuted on FOX.

Cavuto is also an author and writes primarily on business-related topics. Both "More Than Money: True Stories of People Who Learned Life's Ultimate Lesson" and "Your Money or Your Life" became New York Times bestsellers.

In his personal life, Cavuto married his wife, Mary Fulling, in October 1993. The couple has since had three children whose names are Tara, Jeremy and Bradley. The family lives in Mendham, New Jersey.
