Nargis Dutt was born Fatima Rashid, and she was considered to be one of the most prolific actresses in the Hindi film industry. She made her debut in 1935 in the film "Talash-E-Haq," but her acting career truly began in 1942 when she played in "Tamanna."
One of her most famous roles was Radha in the 1957 Academy Award-nominated film, "Mother India," where her performance won her the Best Actress trophy. Later, in 1958, Nargis married her co-star from that movie, actor Sunil Dutt, and she subsequently left the cinema industry. She appeared in films every now and then through the 1960s.
