The names of the dwarfs from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" are Doc, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, Dopey, Sleepy and Grumpy. Each has a unique personality that matches his name.
Doc acts as the leader of the dwarfs, but he tends to be bumbling. Happy has a boisterous personality and loves to laugh. Sneezy is constantly sneezing, and Sleepy always seems like he is about to fall asleep. Bashful is shy, especially around Snow White. Grumpy is usually cranky and does not like to follow the rest of the group. Dopey is the jester of the group and causes quite a few laughs.
The names are unique to the 1937 Disney version of the tale. In the original "Snow White" fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm collection, the dwarfs do not have names; they are only referred to as "the dwarfs" or "the seven dwarfs." Disney rejected numerous names before settling on the seven featured in the film. The company drafted a list of more than 40 potential names for the dwarfs. Some of the rejected names include Woeful, Sniffy, Snoopy, Shorty, Nifty, Lazy, Soulful, Daffy, Flabby, Hickey, Jaunty, Dirty, Biggo-Ego, Awful and Baldy. Doc was the last of the dwarfs to receive a name.
