The Harkins Theaters is a Scottsdale, Arizona-based chain of movie theaters that has a presence in five states including California, Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas. Dwight "Red" Harkins started the movie theater chain in 1933. As of 2013, the movie chain is the fifth largest theater chain in regards to box office numbers and the seventh largest theater chain in America with its 30 locations and more than 400 screens. In addition to premier movie screens, moviegoers can take advantage of the loyalty program that includes a cup, t-shirt and discounted soft drinks. The movie theater circuit also offers a play center for children.
As of 2015, the movie theater chain is constructing a luxury-themed movie theater in Goodyear, Arizona with 16 movie screens. Moviegoers can enjoy a Dolby Atmos 3-D sound and a movie theater auditorium with 500 seats and a movie screen more than 80 feet tall once the Goodyear theater location is complete. Harkins Theater expects the Goodyear site to complete construction in 2016. The theater company is also building a movie theater at the Scottsdale Fashion Square.
