Willliams made his film debut in 1977 when he played some minor roles in the film "Can I Do It 'Til I Need Glasses?" His first starring role in a film was as Popeye in the 1980 movie "Popeye." His breakthrough starring role was as Adrian Cronauer in "Good Morning, Vietnam." After this role, Williams became a breakout star who headlined several successful movies, including the 1982 film "The World According to Garp" and the 1992 animated film "Aladdin".
