Movie theater times are not flexible. Each theater in the United States posts times in which movies will begin, and these times can easily be found online through websites such as Fandango.com, Amctheatres.com or local cinema sites.
Movie theaters schedule start times for movies in order to organize available seating and maximize the times that a movie can be shown during a business day. At the posted movie time, but before the scheduled film begins, most theaters play trailers for upcoming movies which last roughly two minutes each. It is common for seven to eight trailers to be played before the start of a scheduled movie, which can total up to 20 minutes in addition to local advertising, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
