"Kung Fu Panda 2" follows the same characters from the first in the series, "Kung Fu Panda": Po, Tigress, Mantis, Monkey and Crane. As the movie opens, the mythical Chinese kingdom has been at peace for a few years, but it becomes threatened by the evil peacock Lord Shen, whose minions have designed a new weapon that causes him to scour the land for scrap iron.
"Kung Fu Panda 2" deals with the origins of the character Po, explaining how he is the supposed child of Mr. Ping, who is a goose, despite the fact that Po is a panda. Po begins to ponder his existence and where he came from after Mr. Ping informs him that he has not yet achieved inner peace, despite his status as Dragon Warrior. Early in the film, Po encounters a marauding band of wolves working for Lord Shen, but during the fight, Po notices an emblem on the wolf leader's armor that triggers a flashback of his mother. This leads Po to ask Mr. Ping about his childhood and sends him on a hunt for more information.
The rest of the film concerns Po's quest to save China and kung fu tradition by stopping Lord Shen, but Lord Shen eventually captures Po's friends. Before Po saves his friends, he has another flashback to his childhood and attains inner peace. Po eventually saves his friends and defeats Lord Shen, and the film ends with another revelation concerning Po's family.
