Mosaic artists are visual designers who create mosaics. A mosaic is a decorative artwork in which pictures and patterns are created by putting small, colorful pieces of a material together.
Mosaic artists work with a variety of materials, including glass, marble and other stones. Mosaics are used in both interior and exterior designs. Mosaic artists normally create large-scale works that span big surfaces such as walls.
Although the art of mosaics originated in Ancient Greece in around the 8th century B.C., the practice was developed during the Roman Empire. Later, it was developed by Byzantine artists, who created masterful mosaics out of colored pieces of glass.
