The club list includes considerable discounts on current best selling books, critics' top choices and reader favorites. Any book that the new member buys that costs over $9.98 fulfills one of the four purchase commitments of the membership. Certain purchases may not count toward the purchase commitment, including books that are specially priced, non-book items and other exclusions, even if such purchases are over $9.98.

To keep abreast of membership status, the member receives an email every three weeks that presents a new featured book choice or set of books. The member can choose not to receive the featured selection at the Literary Guild's website, but if the member does not express the wish not to receive the book by the deadline given in the email, the book or featured books are sent to the member automatically. The member has up to 10 days to decide whether he wants the featured selection. The credit or debit card or Paypal account provided when the member first signed up is charged for any of the featured or chosen selections purchased.
