Current principal vocalists with Celtic Thunder include Neil Burn, Keith Harkin, Colm Keegan, Ryan Kelly, Damian McGinty and Emmett O’Hanlon. Former vocalists include Paul Byrom, Emmet Cahill, George Donaldson and Daniel Furlong.
Celtic Thunder debuted in August 2007 with five male principals and the Celtic Concert Orchestra. At their first personnel change near the end of 2010, Paul Byrom announced that he was leaving to pursue a solo career in the United States. He was replaced by Emmet Cahill, who left Celtic Thunder in 2014, only to return for a tribute tour to George Donaldson. In 2011, youngest member Damian McGinty resigned to take a role on the hit TV show “Glee.” McGinty rejoined Celtic Thunder in 2015.
In 2012, when principal Ryan Kelly was hurt in a fall, the group hired Colm Keegan to fill in. Later, Keegan was invited to perform as a regular member. The youngest member of Celtic Thunder to date, Daniel Furlong, was a featured guest singer during the group’s 2011 Voyage tour. Glaswegian George Donaldson, the group’s oldest, died in his sleep of a heart attack on March 12, 2014. In addition, female vocalists Deirdre Shannon, Caroline Torti and Belinda Murphy (Celtic Thunder’s stage director) have also performed with the group.
