MBC1 is an Arabic television channel broadcasting shows such as "Kalam Nawaem," "Arab Idol" and "Sabah El Kheir Ya Arab," which translates to "Good Morning Arabs," as of 2015. It originated from London in September 1991 and later relocated its headquarters to Dubai Media City in the United Arab Emirates. The channel is one of several from the Middle East Broadcasting Center, with others including MBC2, MBC3, MBC4, MBC DRAMA and MBC ACTION.
"Kalam Nawaem" is one of the most frequently watched and controversial television shows that airs on MBC1. It is an all-female talk show that pushes for social reform through addressing issues relevant to Arabic women, such as polygamy, terrorism and domestic violence. The program brings in the highest advertising rates out of any show on the network as of 2015.
Viewers can access MBC1 and other Middle East Broadcasting Center channels in high definition by purchasing an HD digital receiver and HDMI cable to use along with an HD television set. MBC.net offers a Locate a Supplier feature that helps viewers find places where they can purchase approved receivers. Only viewers in the Middle East and North Africa are able to receive MBC HD channels. To view MBC3 HD and MBC Plus Variety HD, viewers must have the Arabsat satellite via My-HD, while both Arabsat and Nilesat provide access to all other MBC HD channels.
