Mark Wahlberg was born in 1971 in a poor district in Boston, and is the youngest of nine siblings. He dropped out of high school at 14, fell into a life of crime and drugs, and eventually went to prison after he was convicted of assault. His brother, Donnie Wahlberg, was a member of the popular 1980s teen pop band New Kids on the Block, and helped secure Mark a recording contract after he got out of prison. When Mark's rapping career ended, he dropped his moniker and began appearing in movies as Mark Wahlberg.

Wahlberg's first movie was "Renaissance Man" in 1994. In 1997, he received great recognition for his leading role as porn star Dirk Diggler in "Boogie Nights."
