Full Answer

Most of Michelangelo's sculptures were commissioned by religious leaders and governments and predominately featured religious subjects. His two most famous works, "David" and "The Pieta" were examples of these projects. Other works such as "Bacchus" and "Battle of the Centaurs" were themed around Roman and Greek mythology. When Michelangelo died in 1564, he left behind an unfinished sculpture titled "The Deposition." This work was intended to decorate his own tomb.
