As of 2015, 45 county fairs take place in Massachusetts each year. Examples of Massachusetts country fairs include the Barnstable County Fair, The Big E, Three County Fair and Topsfield Fair.
The Three County Fair began in 1818, making it one of the oldest fairs in the United States. The fair takes place in Northampton, Massachusetts, at the end of the summer. Summer visitors to Cape Cod can also enjoy the music and carnival rides of the Barnstable County Fair.
A few weeks later is The Big E, one of the largest county fairs in the country. The fair is held in West Springfield, Massachusetts, for two weeks in September. Another autumn event, Topsfield Fair features unique exhibits like a beekeeping show, sand sculptures and a pumpkin contest.
