John Sanford, under both his real name of John Camp and the Sanford pseudonym, has written 42 novels and four non-fiction books, as of 2015. Sanford invented the pen name because he published his first novels, "The Fool's Run" and "Rules of Prey," with two different companies in 1989.
Sanford is an American journalist and novelist born in 1944. Other than the 46 published books, he has also written two novels that he admits are not good enough for publication. His most popular books are his "The Prey" series of 25 novels, all of which contain the word "prey" in the titles and feature the murder-case-solving Lieutenant Lucas Davenport. In the last book of the series, "Gathering Prey," Davenport handles a mystery involving his daughter.
