Ximena Navarrete and William Levy star as the leading protagonists in "La Tempestad." Iván Sánchez, Laura Carmine and César Évora star as the leading antagonists in the series.
Marina is the primary protagonist of "La Tempestad," and the story begins with her fighting off the unwanted advances of her boss. This results in her former employer swearing vengeance upon her, which forces her to escape him by travelling to a small fishing village where she finds work and keeps her head down. At this village, she meets Damián, who owns the eponymous boat, and the two quickly fall in love. The story begins to take dark turns as ambitious and jealous rivals appear and seem bent on preventing Damián and Marina from staying happy together.
Salvador Mejía produced this Mexican soap opera series. The show's title is translated as "The Tempest", but it has been translated to "The Storm" by Univision. It is loosely based on a Colombian telenovela called "La Tormenta."
"La Tempestad" appeared on Canal de las Estrellas during weeknights at 9:30pm on May 13, 2013. The show was meant to replace another popular program. Filming took place over several locations in Mexico, including Mexico City and Veracruz.
