Lieutenant Joe Kenda is a veteran homicide investigator who stars in the Investigation Discovery series, "Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda." Kenda worked with the Colorado Springs Police Department for 23 years before retiring.
Joe Kenda was born in Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1973, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and joined the local police department where he served for more than two decades. During his career, Kenda reportedly helped to solve hundreds of murders. He also made regular appearances on local TV news stations, giving interviews about local crimes and investigations.
"Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda" features interviews of Kenda recounting real cases that he worked on during his years with the homicide unit. The show also contains re-enactments of the crimes and subsequent investigations based on Kenda's re-telling of events and on information contained in case files. In an interview, Kenda has said that he only agreed to do the show if producers would allow him to speak in his own words. All footage of Kenda on the show is entirely unscripted. In the show's dramatic re-enactments, Kenda is portrayed by actor Carl Marino. The first episode of the series was aired in 2011.
