As of 2015, the longest running Chinese television series is "Happy Camp." A Chinese variety show produced by Hunan Broadcasting System, "Happy Camp" debuted on July 7, 1997, and has remained on the air ever since.
"Happy Camp" airs on Saturday evenings. Since March of 1998, it has been hosted by He Jiong. A variety show, "Happy Camp" survived competition from not only other, now-defunct variety shows like Super Winner and Happiness General Mobilization, but also the Chinese television reality show boom of the 2000s. According to CSM Media Research, a leading television ratings analysis company, "Happy Camp" earned an average audience rating of 2.53 percent in the first half of 2015, which is still high among popular variety shows.
