HBO, or Home Box Office, Inc., has been on the air since Nov. 8, 1972. As of 2015, it is the longest-running pay television service in the United States.
HBO is a subsidiary of Time Warner. It specializes in offering a wide range of original programming such as television series, made-for-cable films and documentaries, live concerts and stand-up comedy specials. It is the world's most successful premium television company with approximately 122 million subscribers worldwide. HBO programming is critically acclaimed, with HBO series winning 19 awards at the 66th annual Primetime Emmy awards in 2014 along with various other broadcasting awards.
