"Coronation Street" is an English soap opera that first aired in 1960 and continues to be produced, as of 2015. It is about a group of working class people who live in the fictional town of Weatherfield. "Coronation Street" is the longest running British soap opera.
Weatherfield is based upon Salford, which is a real town located in the Greater Manchester area. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Salford became a factory town and inland port, gaining a reputation for being a working class area. The soap opera's title "Coronation Street" is the name of the street that many of the soap opera's working-class characters live on in the fictional Weatherfield.
