Full Answer

Britain's Got Talent is a British television talent show created by Simon Cowell. The show first aired in June 2007 and airs on ITV. Anybody, irrespective of age, can audition for the show. The original judging panel consisted of Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell. The winner of the show gets to perform in front of the British royal family members at the Royal Variety Performance.

Contestants perform their acts in front of the judges and a live audience. Selected candidates get a chance to perform in the semi-finals. The British public votes for their favorite contestants, with two contestants selected from each semi-finals episode. The contestant with the highest number of votes becomes the first contestant to qualify for the finals. The judges choose the second finalist from contestants with the second- and third-highest number of votes.

A total of 24 contestants reached the semi-finals in the first season, with the number of finalists reaching 45 by the sixth season.
