The Disney Channel offers a variety of programming, including original live-action series, original movies and animated series. The network?s content is distributed across three channels: Disney, Disney XD and Disney Junior.
The original Disney Channel is the network?s flagship channel and features many of its best-known shows, including ?Wizards of Waverly Place,? ?Austin & Ally? and ?Dog with a Blog.? The main channel specializes in original live-action series targeted at viewers ages 6 to 14. Most series focus primarily on teen and tween characters. Disney Channel also airs live-action movies targeted at similar demographics.
Disney XD is the main network?s sister channel, targeted primarily at male viewers ages 6 to 14. The channel launched in 2009, replacing previous sister channel Toon Disney. The channel features original cartoons and live-action series aimed at young boys along with some syndicated programming. Almost all Disney XD live-action shows feature primarily male protagonists, and its cartoons are generally more focused on action or comedy, including ?Star Wars,? ?Spider-Man? and ?The Incredible Hulk.?
Disney Junior is the main network?s other sister channel, with programming targeted at younger viewers ages 2 to 7. The channel is broadcast without commercials, competing against other preschool-focused channels such as Nick Jr. and Sprout. Disney Junior broadcasts classic Disney cartoons as well as original programming such as ?Sheriff Callie?s Wild West? and ?Doc McStuffins.?
