Some films starring Jet Li that were originally only released in China include the "Shaolin Temple" series, the "Once Upon A Time in China" series and "Fist of Legend." Li also starred in two China-only wuxia feature films released in 2011.
The first "Shaolin Temple" movie was released in 1982 and was Li's breakout hit. Li starred as a Shaolin apprentice in ancient China in the first film and as a Shaolin master in later films.
The "Once Upon A Time in China" films were set in more recent Chinese history. Li starred as folk hero Wong Fei-hung.
"Fist of Legend" was a remake of Bruce Lee's "Fist of Fury," which was released in the United States as "The Chinese Connection." The film moves the setting to Japanese-occupied China in 1937 and weaves elements of the original plot in with a conflict with the Japanese Army.
Some other Chinese releases that Jet Li starred in include "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate," "The Sorcerer and the White Snake," "Badges of Fury," "Ocean Heaven" and "The Evil Cult." Some of these films have been dubbed in English and released under different titles.
Li is also slated to star in "Feng Shen Bang 3D," which is scheduled for release in China in 2016.
