Joseph Levitch, the given name of entertainer and philanthropist Jerry Lewis, was born on March 16, 1926, in Newark, New Jersey. His parents, who went by the stage names Danny and Rae Lewis, were active in vaudeville.
Jerry Lewis started performing as a child and quit high school when he was 15 to pursue his interests full-time. He eventually met Dean Martin, and the two became a successful comedy duo. He married his first wife, Patti, in 1944, and the couple had six children; they divorced in 1982, and Jerry remarried in 1983. He and his second wife, SanDee, had one child. DNA testing proved that a woman who claimed in 2009 to be his daughter is also Lewis's child.
