Jeannette Walls was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but her family life was very active, as her parents frequently moved around and did not have a permanent home. Her family lived in a variety of locations, including Arizona, California, Nevada and West Virginia, and there were times when they were homeless.
Jeanette Walls is renowned for her memoir, "The Glass Castle," which detailed her life with her mobile family. She grew up with one brother and two sisters, and despite her turbulent youth, she finished high school after she moved to New York City. She later graduated from Barnard College and went on to become a gossip columnist for MSNBC.
