Janette Oke has written series of books and standalone books.

"Love Comes Softly," Oke's first book, was also the first book in the Love Comes Softly series. A Prairie Legacy was the follow-up to the Love Comes Softly series, and it focused on the grandchildren of characters from that series. As of May 2015, other series written by Oke include the Seasons of the Heart series, the Canadian West series, the Song of Acadia series, the Acts of Faith series and Janette Oke's Animal Friends series. She also wrote a category of books called Women of the West books, but these are standalone novels that focus on similar women.

Oke co-wrote the Acts of Faith series with T. Davis Bunn. She has also co-written standalone novels with Bunn and her daughter, Laurel Oke Logan.

Oke has received multiple awards for her writing, including the 1992 President's Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association and the 1999 Life Impact Award from the Christian Booksellers Association International.
