Jack Reacher is a fictional character created by Lee Child, pen name of British author Jim Grant. Jack Reacher is the protagonist of a series of novels by the same name. Born on Oct. 29, 1960, in a Berlin military base, he is a former major who quit at the age of 36 in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.
Jack Reacher has received numerous military awards, including the Legion of Merit, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Since leaving the army, he has been drifting across the United States doing odd jobs and investigating situations that are suspicious.
As of September 2015, the novel series consists of 20 novels. “Nothing to Lose,” “A Wanted Man,” “Worth Dying For,” “One Shot” and “Never Go Back” are some novels in the series. The novels are written either in the first person or third person.
The novels have also inspired a movie series. The first film of the series, “Jack Reacher,” was based on the book “One Shot” and was released on Dec. 21, 2012. Tom Cruise played the title character of Jack Reacher. The movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie. As of September 2015, the second installment of the movie series, “Never Go Back,” is in the making.
