Judith Ann Jance is an author who has written several series of horror and mystery novels that revolve around certain characters, such as J.P. Beaumont, a retired officer from the Seattle Police Department, and Joanna Brady, a sheriff from Arizona. Jance is also the author of the series featuring Ali Reynolds, a series on the Walker family mysteries and a poetry collection called "After the Fire."
Born in South Dakota and raised in Bisbee, Arizona, the location of her Joanna Brady series, Jance divides her time living between Seattle and Arizona. She received a bachelor's degree in English and Secondary Education in 1966 and a masters of education in Library Science in 1970. She was a librarian at Indian Oasis School District in Sells, Arizona, which is located on a Native American reservation, before becoming a writer.
