J.D. Robb is the pseudonym fiction author Nora Roberts used to write and promote a futuristic suspense fiction book series. She used the name J.D. Robb to reach new audiences and expand the readership and fan base for her large and on-going "In Death" series.
When the series debuted, fans were not immediately aware of the true identity of J.D. Robb. Upon the publication of more books, fans became suspicious. Public confirmation or announcement did not occur until after the release of the 12th book in the series, "Betrayal in Death," in 2001. Devoted Nora Roberts fans began to purchase the books and catch up on the series as a result.
The first book of the "In Death" series that Nora Roberts released under the name J.D. Robb is called "Naked in Death" and was first published in paperback edition in 1995. The main character, Eve Dallas, quickly became popular as did the novel. Since the publishing of her ninth novel in the series, "Loyalty in Death" in 1999, every J.D. Robb book in the "In Death" series has made the best-seller list. As of 2015, the most recent novel in the series is called "Obsession in Death." She publishes two hardcover "In Death" books per year.
