Iran has live television. There are numerous news channels that broadcast across the country live and are a major part of live telecasting in Iran. Apart from news, there are also many channels broadcasting sporting events, children's programs and other shows live.
Television was first introduced in Iran in 1958. The media corporation Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, or IRIB, holds the monopoly for television and radio services in Iran. Press TV (English), IRIB News Khabar, Iran NTV (Simay Azadi), BBC Persian and Al-Alam are some of the news channels that telecast live shows. IRIB TV3 is a channel that primarily telecasts major sporting events and is often referred to as the youth channel.
