An antihistamine and loose clothing are the most common home treatments for hives and skin rashes. Antihistamines, such as Benadryl or Claritin, can be purchased over-the-counter, states Mayo Clinic.
At-home treatments to help reduce the itching of the hives include a bath with baking soda or oatmeal in the water. Placing something directly on the rash, such as a cold washcloth, can also help alleviate some of the discomfort being caused to the skin, as stated by Mayo Clinic. If a patient knows exactly what causes the hives, avoiding that specific food or object will stop the hives all together.
