High points of Maribel Guardia's career include winning Miss Costa Rica in 1978 and receiving a best actress nomination at the 1987 Ariel Awards for her role in "Terror y encajes negros." She is also known for her roles in "�Qu� madre, tan padre!" and "Crown of Tears."
Born on May 29, 1959, Guardia has worked as a model, actor and singer. She was a semifinalist at the 1978 Miss World pageant and a contestant at the 1978 Miss Universe pageant. She studied drama at Sergio Bustamante's academy through a scholarship from Televisa. Although she was born Maribel Fernandez Garcia, she changed her last name for her stage name because Televisa had another woman named Maribel Fernandez already. Her film debut came in "Como Mexico No Hay Dos."
Guardia has acted in movies and television shows, including multiple Mexican telenovelas. While working on one of those telenovelas, "Tu y yo," she met Joan Sebastian. The two became a couple, and during their four-year relationship, they had a son, named Marcos Julian.
She released her self-titled debut album in 1987. During that time, she was also featured on the cover of many fashion and beauty magazines. Guardia has released several albums since her debut, including a collaboration album with Joan Sebastian.
