In the season 19 finale of “The Bachelor,” which aired on March 9, 2015, Chris Soules decided to pursue a romantic relationship with Whitney Bischoff instead of Becca Tilley. Bischoff and Tilley were the last remaining women from an initial group of 30 who were competing to be selected as a potential future bride for Soules, an Iowan farmer.
Soules returned to his family in Iowa to consult with them about which of the two women they felt would make the best wife. Soules appeared to agonize over the decision and showed no clear preference for either Tilley or Bischoff. Bischoff and Tilley both joined Soules at his farm, at different times, so that they could make a case for their eligibility to his family. Bischoff visited first and arrived at the gathering with a bottle of wine and a bouquet of flowers. Bischoff formed a connection with Soules’ parents when she admitted that both of her parents had passed away.
When Tilley arrived a day later, she struggled to form an immediate connection with Soules’ family and admitted that she was hesitant to move to a small town. Soules’ family liked Tilley but felt that she would be less committed to Chris in the long run. Chris Soules, who stated that he valued the opinion of his family highly, chose the woman that they voiced a preference for. When Chris proposed to Whitney Bischoff, presenting her with a large diamond ring, Bischoff said yes.
