As of July 2015, Sean Hannity has never made an appearance on "The Daily Show," although long-time host Jon Stewart aired clips of the Fox News host multiple times. Hannity also has leveled criticism at Stewart, leading to a back-and-forth feud.
The source of one of the more significant battles between the two began when Stewart mocked Hannity's support for rancher Cliven Bundy, who refused to pay grazing fees in a standoff with the federal government that led to many of Bundy's supporters taking up arms. According to Stewart, Hannity was being a hypocrite by celebrating Bundy for breaking the law when Hannity regularly blasts the lawbreaking of people such as immigrants and student protesters. Hannity responded by criticizing Stewart for having singer Yusef Islam at a guest for the "Rally to Restore Sanity" that Stewart organized.
The feud also erupted when Stewart mocked Hannity's coverage of spring break, and Hannity responded by calling Stewart a sanctimonious jackass. Stewart has also consistently criticized Hannity's coverage of President Obama, claiming it is racist.
Many media commentators appear to believe that Stewart has the upper hand in the fight, with one Variety columnist writing that Hannity can't compete with the research staff at "The Daily Show."
