In the Bobby Flay Meatloaf Throwdown, Bobby Flay challenged Cape Cod diner owners Jack and Rocco Collucci to a meatloaf competition. Judges carried out a blind taste and the Collucci brothers were declared the winners.
The competition was held at the Collucci's 4 Bros. Bistro & Last Resort Lounge, located in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts. The brothers thought they were being taped by the Food Network for a special on American Diners. They closed down their restaurant and began preparing a special birthday celebration for their father and mentor, John Collucci. They were then surprised by TV Chef Bobby Flay and challenged to a meatloaf cook off. Collucci and his guests were completely caught off-guard. Only members of the Food Network were in on the secret and knew in advance about the throwdown challenge. The brothers and Flay began cooking side by side.
The judges arrived as the cooking was underway and waited for their chance to taste the creations. The judging panel consisted of Phantom Gourmet Dave Andelman and first-time food critic Richard Meade. The meatloaf prepared by the Collucci brothers from a recipe originally created by their father, won the challenge. Bobby Flay was also impressed by the Collucci brothers' meatloaf, one of several homestyle dishes the brothers are known for.
