The Gaither Gospel Singers, known as the Gaither Vocal Band, are a group of Christian gospel musicians founded by lead singer Bill Gaither. As of 2015, the group includes David Phelps, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb and Todd Suttles. The group first performed contemporary Christian music, but it has since become known for Southern gospel.
The lineup of the Gaither Vocal Band frequently changes because the artists involved also have solo careers, but Bill Gaither remains a constant. The group performs live and records albums filled with songs written by Gaither, and it covers hymns and Christian standards.
Songs performed and recorded by the Gaither Vocal Band that are written by Bill Gaither include "Because He Lives," "Jesus, There's Something About That Name," "Something Beautiful," "The Longer I Serve Him" and "I'm Gonna Sing." His songs have been performed by other Christian musicians such as the David Crowder Band, The Heritage Singers and The Cathedral Quartet. Along with his wife, Gloria, Bill Gaither has also performed with the Bill Gaither Trio. His career accelerated in the 1990s when he formed a performance recording and tour called the Gaither Homecoming Series. This project also helped rejuvenate the careers of other Southern gospel musicians and created a new wave of interest for fans of Christian and gospel music.
