Chef Ben Ford is the son of actor Harrison Ford and the proprietor of Ford's Filling Station in Culver City, California. When he was younger, he wanted to be a baseball player, but he decided to pursue his love of cooking after suffering a series of injuries.
His father was a carpenter before becoming a movie star, and the younger Ford has said that learning about construction early in his life led to an interest in building things. He built tree houses and progressed to building actual houses. Ben Ford made money through construction as he was working his way up as a cook.
He cultivated an interest in the slow food movement while studying at the University of Dijon in France, where people would buy fresh meat and produce at the market daily. He opened a high-end restaurant called Chadwick in 1999. In 2004, he opened the first Ford's Filling Station in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the restaurant's accessible style led to the its being dubbed one of the first gastropubs in the United States.
His favorite seasonal ingredients are ramps, green garlic and morel mushrooms. He has said that everyone in his family gets involved in cooking and that he tries to make cooking fun for his kids.
