According to AllRecipes.com, TheKitchn.com and the Food Network, fresh marinara is easy and quick to make. Recipes provided on all three websites have preparation times that range from 20 minutes to just over an hour.
The easiest is All Recipe's 20-minute marinara. It has a short ingredient list consisting of a tablespoon of olive oil, one finely diced small yellow onion, two to three minced garlic cloves and one 28-ounce can of whole peeled tomatoes. Necessary herbs are one bay leaf, fresh thyme, basil and oregano. Saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil, crush the tomatoes in with a spatula, add the herbs, and simmer for 20 minutes
