Francisco Pizarro is credited with helping to discover the Pacific Ocean. The Spanish explorer is also said to have helped conquer Peru and found the country's capital city of Lima.
Pizarro did none of the things he is credited with by himself but played a pivotal role in a number of exploration accomplishments. Pizarro worked alongside Vasco Núñez de Balboa in order to discover the Pacific Ocean, and he engaged in his fight to conquer Peru as a member of the Spanish army. Pizarro served as the ruler of Lima for several years before being executed for his part in a feud between conquistadors.
