iKON is a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment in 2015. According to the CEO of YG, Yang Hyun Suk, the band's name was originally supposed to be "ICON," but he replaced the "C" with a "K" because the band was supposed to become an icon for South Korea. The band made their official debut n 2015, but the individual members were known in a variety of musical survival shows. Individual band members were famous on "Who is Next: Win" and "Mix & Match."
The bandmates were originally introduced in 2013 when they appeared on the "Who is Next: Win" survival program. They went as Team B, and they competed against other groups of trainees for a chance to debut. This program gave them the opportunity to not only allow the audience to witness their dancing and singing skills, but also to observe their talents' as lyricists and composers. Through public voting, Team B eventually lost, but they continued as trainees, and they released two singles during their time on the show: "Just Another Boy" and "Climax."
