A 1960 Bollywood film, “Kohinoor” is about how a king overcomes numerous obstacles and wins over his queen. The plot of the movie revolves around the characters of Rajkumar Dhivendra Pratap Bahadur Chandrabhan and Rajkumari Chandramukhi, played by Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari, respectively. S U Sunny directed the movie, and Naushad composed the music for the film.
After the passing away of the king of Kailash Nagar, Maharaj Dhiraj Rana Chandrabhan, his son Rajkumar Dhivendra is crowned as the new king by Senapati Veer Singh. Veer Singh’s wife, who has cared for and brought up Dhivendra, wants Dhivendra to marry Rajkumari Chandramukhi of Rajgarh. On hearing this, pleased Maharaja of Rajgarh sends his daughter to Kailash Nagar.
Chandramukhi is abducted by the Senapati of Rajgarh while on her way to Kailash Nagar. He holds her captive and wants her to agree to marry him. On hearing this, Dhivendra sets out to find her and free her. He does rescue her, and both fall in love. Through a turn of events, they are again captured by Senapati’s men. Dhivendra escapes but is gravely injured in the process. Chandramukhi is again taken captive by the Senapati.
Dhivendra ends up being treated and looked after by Rajgarh's Raj Nartaki, Rajlaxmi. Rajlaxmi falls in love with Dhivendra. The rest of the story revolves around Dhivendra freeing Chandramukhi again from the Senapati in spite of the various obstacles, including Rajlaxmi.
