Some popular festivals held in the United States during the month of June include Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, the Chicago Blues Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Forest Festival and Firefly Music Festival. Other festivals that occur in June include the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the San Francisco Pride festival, Wakarusa, Sonic Bloom and Wisconsin's Summerfest.
Held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival began in 2002. The festival generally starts on the second Thursday in June and lasts for four days. The festival originally focused mostly on jam bands and folk rock but has since expanded to include a wide variety of musical styles, including reggae, hip hop, electronica, country music and gospel. Some of the famous acts to take the stage at Bonnaroo include Elton John, Nine Inch Nails, The Beach Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dave Matthews Band.
Held over three days in June, the Chicago Blues Festival began in 1984. The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events hosts the event, which takes place at Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park, located next to the Lake Michigan waterfront. The festival regularly hosts some of the top names in blues music, including performers such as B.B. King, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Etta James and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
