Two famous women from Sturgis, South Dakota, are Olympic taekwondo medalist Paige McPherson and basketball player Megan Mahoney. McPherson won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the women's 67-kilogram division in taekwondo. She went back to her hometown later that year to attend the Sturgis Brown High School Homecoming Parade and speak with students.
Mahoney was a five-year basketball letter winner in high school and a four-year letter winner at Kansas State University. After college, she played in the WNBA for the Connecticut Sun and Houston Comets. As of 2015, she plays in France for Team Villeneuve.Learn more about Art & Literature
