She did work for Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. She also recited one of her poems at the inauguration of President Clinton. She received many awards and recognitions for her work, including a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize nomination.
Angelou was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1968. She died in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 2014.
