Some famous rock bands are Led Zeppelin, Guns n' Roses, Metallica, Nirvana and Soundgarden. Of course, there are many more well-known rock bands because there are so many different genres and eras of rock music.
Led Zeppelin is perhaps one of the most legendary rock bands in history. Formed in 1968, the band encompassed numerous genres, dabbling in blues, hard rock, folk and heavy metal. Guns n' Roses, which has often been compared to Aerosmith, also incorporates several genres including blues, hard rock and country, into their music. Best-known are former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash and singer Axl Rose.
Metallica, another famous rock band, which formed with the goal of keeping heavy metal "alive," has solidified its place as part of "the big four." With several hits such as Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman, Metallica has over 20 years under its belt.
Nirvana and Soundgarden, along with Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, have been credited with spearheading the grunge movement that originated in Seattle, Washington in the early 1990s. This movement spread infectiously, especially among young people, and forever changed the face of pop culture.
There are many other bands who deserve mention as well, such as The Rolling Stones, Rush, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bush and Foo Fighters.
