In the past, authors like Voltaire and Charlotte Bronte, composers like Mozart and Beethoven, and even statesmen like Napoleon Bonaparte have written love letters that have made history. There are also examples of prolific writers of love letters in more recent times, like Ronald Regan and Richard Burton.
For centuries, love letters have been used to express emotions by both ordinary and famous people. Ronald Regan often wrote to future wife Nancy during the years. She collected all his letters and published them in a book titled "I Love You Ronnie". Bonaparte wrote passionately to different women during his lifetime, including Josephine Beauharnais, Marie Waleska and Marie-Louise of Austria. Charles Darwin proposed to his first cousin Emma Wedgwood with a letter declaring his love, a few days before their wedding day.
