Oprah Winfrey, Kirstie Alley and John Goodman are some famous people who have had public struggles with their weight. Many of these people have had ongoing weight loss and weight gain cycles, while others have been habitually obese but changed their lifestyles to lose weight. Some have become spokespersons for diet and weight loss programs.
Oprah Winfrey is one of the most famous personalities to struggle with repetitive weight gain and loss cycles, doing so in front of national television audiences on her hit show. She began by unveiling a 67-pound weight loss on-air in 1988. She famously lugged around a wagon containing 67 pounds of fat to demonstrate her accomplishment. Before long, because of thyroid problems and bad eating habits, she was back over 200 pounds and accepted the fact that she is never going to be skinny. However, she said she does try to eat a healthy diet.
Kirstie Alley has gone from heavy to skinny and back to heavy in public often. She had topped the scales at 228 pounds, and then she famously lost 75 pounds on the Jenny Craig diet and became the company's spokesperson. She soon gained the weight back and more, which prompted her to lose almost 100 pounds for her role on "Dancing With the Stars." The rigors of the show allowed her to drop to a size six, but she has since gained some of the weight back.
Actor John Goodman tipped the scales at 368 pounds in 2007 but has since made a commitment to his health by quitting drinking, giving up sugar and exercising six days a week to lose over 100 pounds.
