One of the best-known paintings depicting a woman on horseback is "The Horsewoman" by the French impressionist Edouard Manet. The painting was completed in 1875 and is housed at the Museum Of Art in Sao Paolo.
The English painter George Stubbs depicted horses in many of his paintings, several of which feature women. A notable example of his work is "John and Sophia Musters Out Riding at Colwick Hall," painted in 1777 and now privately owned. Another English painter, Sir Edwin Landseer, was also a notable painter of horses and his works include representations of Queen Victoria and Lady Godiva mounted on horses.
