Some of the most famous Marvel superheroes are Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and Wolverine. Other famous Marvel superheroes include Thor, Black Widow, Ant-Man and Daredevil.
As of June 2015, Marvel superheroes are some of the most popular characters in the world. In 2008, Marvel Studios released the movie versions of "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk," which began the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movies have brought fame to once lesser-known characters, such as Thor and Black Widow, and have brought greater fame to well-known superheroes, such as Iron Man and Captain America. Many Marvel superheroes gained fame as part of superhero teams such as the X-Men, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. These teams have been prominently featured in many successful comics and movies, bringing fame to otherwise unknown characters such as Ant-Man, Vision and Wasp.
Some popular superheroes, such as Wolverine and Cyclops, are not allowed to be used by Marvel Studios in its movies due to previous licensing deals with other studios. These characters have also grown increasingly popular, despite not being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to comics and movies, Marvel superheroes have also gained exposure through television and video games, as well as through merchandising, such as toys, clothing and theme parks.
