Bette Davis was born Ruth Elizabeth Davis on April 5, 1908, and went on to become one of the most famous actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood. In 1934, Davis starred in "Of Human Bondage," which brought her stardom and critical acclaim. She was not nominated for this performance at the Academy Awards, an oversight so widely seen as a snub that many voters wrote in her name. However, Davis won the Academy Award for Best Actress the next year for "Dangerous" and again in 1939 for "Jezebel."
Davis received eight more Oscar nominations, including for some of her most commercial popular films. Some of these include "All About Eve," in which she co-starred with Anne Baxter, and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane," co-starring Joan Crawford. Other films for which Davis received Oscar nominations include "The Little Foxes," "The Star" and "The Letter." Towards the end of her career, Davis primarily appeared in TV movies, such as "Right of Way" and "Murder with Mirrors."Learn more about Art & Literature
